We teach free English & GED classes in the City Colleges.

We are adult educators who teach English as a Second Language (ESL) & GED to immigrants and U.S. born. No papers are required. We help everyone learn the language and the culture. As working teachers, we have learned many lessons ourselves:

We have learned that employers only care how to make money off us. Our employer cuts our classes to increase our workload and to weaken us. They eliminate teachers and buy more computers - to replace us with cheaper workers and machines. We want to join hands with you. As we say, “One hand washes the other.” We need each other.

We have learned the hard way that only the employer benefits when we are divided by race, by nationality, by gender, by distrust. Today’s attacks on immigrants are an attack on the weakest among us. We are learning to stand up for each other or go down alone.

We are for everyone having a living wage, decent benefits, and health care. To live in peace and to be free from discrimination. All our labor creates their profits. If we join hands, we can take money from their war budget and profits to spend on our human needs.

Employers use immigrants to lower wages and benefits of some workers here. Some U.S. workers fear immigrants as competition for existing jobs and decent pay. As working people, we want to help build chains of unity, of solidarity. To lift us all up, not be used to tear each other down. To do this, we must come together and fight for living wages and benefits for all workers here and elsewhere. Immigrant workers are not the enemy.
