Open University of the Left welcomes film Director Denis Mueller who will lead a discussion following the showing of his film " J. Edgar Hoover and the Great American Inquisitions." The film documents the man who lead the FBI for almost 48 years and his paranoid obsession with "anti-American activities." This was defined in practice as any expression of dissent. At the time of his death in 1972, Hoover's FBI had compiled millions of secret files on individual American citizens as well as completing countless illegal operations against individuals and legal organizations.

As the Bush administration attempts to justify its current policy of massive, extra-legal domestic spying as a "necessary" security measure in the never-ending War Against Terrorism, this film is more relevant than ever.
