Venezuela Supreme Court Justice visits Chicago--A3 and 4
Chicago. March 29, 2006.—Justice Fernando Ramón Vegas Torrealba, of Venezuela’s Supreme Tribunal of Justice, will be stopping in Chicago on April 3rd and 4th as part of his nationwide speaking tour hosted by the National Lawyers Guild (NLG). Justice Vegas Torrealba will be speaking to lawyers, judges, law students, and community organizations about Venezuela’s new Bolivarian Constitution. His tour, from April 2nd through April 19th, includes stops in New York City, Washington, D.C., Milwaukee, Los Angeles, Sacramento and the Bay Area.

While in Chicago, Justice Vegas Torrealba will be speaking at Northwestern University School of Law on Monday, April 3rd at 12 p.m. in Williams—Room 107 at 357 E. Chicago Ave. Northwestern’s NLG chapter, Children and Family Justice Center, and Center on International Human Rights will sponsor this event, titled “Venezuela, Chavez and the New Bolivarian Constitution.” Space for this event is limited; contact e-curtis(at)law.northwestern.edu or call 312-503-0396.
He will also be speaking at DePaul University College of Law on Tuesday, April 4th at 12:30 p.m. in Room 803 of the Lewis Center, 25 E. Jackson Blvd. DePaul’s NLG chapter, along with the school’s International Law Society and the Latino Law Student Association, will be sponsoring this event which is free and open to the public. Reservations are not required.
On the night of April 4th, Justice Vegas Torrealba will be the featured guest at a fundraising dinner hosted by the NLG Chicago chapter, with proceeds going to the Chicago chapter. The dinner will be held at Decima Musa, 1901 S. Loomis, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 for dinner, or $5 for those not eating dinner.
The National Lawyers Guild is a bar association founded in 1937 and comprising more than 6,000 members and activists in the service of the people. Its national office is headquartered in New York and it has chapters in nearly every state, as well as more than 100 law school chapters. The Guild has a long history of litigating to protect the constitutional rights of people in this country.
