Parecon in Pilsen: A Presentation, March 22 at Decima Musa

Parecon in Pilsen: A Vision of Real Democracy.
6:30PM, Wed. Mar. 22 at Decima Musa restaurant, 1901 S. Loomis. In English with Spanish translation. Free admission.

CAPES, the Chicago Area Participatory Economics Society, presents "Parecon" (or "Participatory Economics"), a vision which strives to bring democracy and peace and positive values to economics. Parecon is an economic model free of the battlefields that we call markets and the bosses who drill us to no end.

The worker-run factories of Argentina and Venezuela are a special inspiration, but
democracy can happen anywhere if it is freely debated and diligently worked for.

Howard Zinn calls Parecon "a thoughtful, profound meditation on what a good society can be like;" Arundhati Roy, "a brave argument for a
much needed alternative economic vision", and Noam Chomsky calls it "the most serious effort I know to provide a very detailed possible
answer. . . "

PARECON is payment for effort and sacrifice, not output, tools or talent; universal training for high-functioning work evenly distributed
among working people; democratic management of factories, industries and whole economies by working people themselves and by the
communities they serve; and a process of iterative negotiation to replace market chaos: economic peace to end long ages of war.

A panel of CAPES members will present the model and then lead discussion. Neighborhood hosts, the Pilsen/Southwest Side Greens, will provide full Spanish translation.
