3/21: Discussion on Chicago writer James T. Farrell

Open University of the Left presents on Tuesday March 21,7:00 PM at In These Times 2040 N.
Milwaukee Ave. Chicago, James T. Farrell: Art and Politics/Fiction and Criticism
Professor Bill Savage of Northwestern University leads a discussion about Chicago-born novelist and essayist James T. Farrell (1904-1979). Best known for his Depression-era Studs Lonigan trilogy. These writings provide an expose of the false consciousness created by the everyday institutions of capitalist society. Farrell here emphasized the social context from which his Southside Irish-American characters emerged.

Professor Savage will discuss Farrell's evolution as a writer and thinker over the course of his long and productive career. He will focus on the tales in the volume "Chicago Stories," including "The Fastest Runner on 61st Street," "For White Men Only" and "All Things Are Nothing To Me."
