Reclaim The Commons Meeting: TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 14TH at 7:00 at the NEW WORLD RESOURCE CENTER which is at 1300 N. WESTERN AVE
This is an announcement about a meeting for Reclaim The Commons, a new way of organizing around the Biotech Industry Organization convention that is coming to Chicago this April. This effort will be complementary to BioETHICS 2006, but independent. We will be having weekly open meetings starting on TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 14TH at 7:00 at the NEW WORLD RESOURCE CENTER which is at 1300 N. WESTERN AVE.
The idea is to set up a structure where anyone can come and get involved, contribute ideas, make decisions, take initiative, and make some good things happen! Our hope is to address the range of issues that relate to the biotech industry in the context of broader movements for global justice, food sovereignty, ecology, healthcare, human rights, and against poverty and war. Also to create events that are educational and inspiring, and that invigorate ongoing work on these issues.
The main focus of the meeting on the 14th will be to share ideas for what to do in April, and realistically assess what we can accomplish in two months.
Please send email to
reclaimthecommons (at) yahoo.com if you would like to be involved but cant make it to this meeting.
We have just two months to put Reclaim the Commons together and theres a lot to do. We need all the help we can get, so please come to a meeting – and be ready to jump right in! A schedule of ongoing meetings will be published soon.
Please try to come on time (7:00) to the meeting – New World Resource Center closes at 9:00.
At 6:45, we’ll be showing a 10 minute film about genetic engineering and global food issues called “Contaminated” for anyone who wants to come early.
