TORTURE CONTROVERSY EXPLORED AT FORUM AT MCC
CRYSTAL LAKE—Anthony Ibeagha, a representative of Torture Abolition and Support Survivors Coalition International (TASSC), will be the featured speaker at the Current American Issues Forum at McHenry County College at 7 PM, Thursday, February 9th.
Ibeagha was forced to flee his home as a child during a Nigerian civil war. He will discuss the challenge to long held American values represented by current attempt to redefine torture and the out-sourcing of brutal interrogation to regimes with a history of prisoner abuse in the “extraordinary rendition” program.
Deb Martin, who is coordinating this program for the sponsoring McHenry County Peace Group, described Ibeagha as, “a powerful advocate for the McCain amendment on torture recently passed by Congress.
There will be plenty of time for questions and open discussion following the presentation.
The program is open to the public and free of charge. The presentation will be held in the Faculty Lounge located just off of the cafeteria.
