World Can’t Wait poised to Bring the Noise - Drown-out Bush’s Lies

On Tuesday, January 31, thousands will gather in Chicago and in cities across the nation to drown out President Bush's State of the Union address and challenge his record of lies, misrepresenation, and manipulation.
On January 31st, in Chicago and in scores of cities across the country, thousands of people will challenge President Bush’s record as President of the United States. As the President addresses the nation during the annual State of Union, the World Can’t Wait, in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, and many other locations, will deliver a message of civil rights, freedom of expression, independence, and empowerment that will drown-out the rhetoric of a Bush regime that in five years has stripped the liberties of women, the lower class, minorities and immigrants.

Last month, the New York Times disclosed that President Bush illegally authorized the National Security Agency to eavesdrop on thousands of people within the United States. One example that, in the name of security and financial prosperity, the administration is stripping the country of its civil liberties, and the resources to pursue economic, social and religious independence. As a result, the rights of women are threatened, innocent people face persecution, the environment is deteriorating, thousands are dead in Iraq, and millions in the Gulf Region are struggling to build a new future.

While President Bush ignores the outrage against his administration, the World Can’t Wait until 2008 for new leadership when democracy as it existed just a few years ago will be dead.

The rally in Chicago will take place on Tuesday, January 31st at 5:00 p.m. at Daley Plaza, 50 West Washington Street, Chicago. (After a 5:30 p.m. rally at Daley Plaza, participants will link up with communities around Chicago to drown-out the President during the State of the Union address.)

Who is The World Can't Wait -- a National group with networks in cities across the United States organizing people to stop the Bush Administration and to create a political situation where the Bush administration's program is repudiated, where Bush is driven from office, and where the whole direction the United States has been led is reversed. An ad published by World Can't Wait-Drive Out the Bush Regime in the New York Times on January 20 was signed by Edward Asner, Harry Belafonte, Michael Eric Dyson, Niles Eldredge, Eve Ensler, Jane Fonda, Martin Garbus, Paul Haggis, Jonathan Kozol, Jessica Lange, Lewis Lapham, Tom Morello, US Rep Major Owens, Sean Penn, Harold Pinter, Susan Sarandon, John Sayles, Richard Serra, Rev. Al Sharpton, Cindy Sheehan, Serj Tankian, Studs Terkel, Kurt Vonnegut, US Rep. Maxine Waters, Cornel West, and Howard Zinn.
