Supposed "Ex-Gay" Sleazy Stephen Bennett is Back With Radio H-A-T-E

Proclaiming a presumably self-evident truth that "God's plan" is for heterosexuality, Sleazy Stephen likens homosexuality to alcoholism, drug addiction and "other sinful behavior." Sleazy Stephen conveniently overlooks the fact that the word "sinful" is not found in the United States Constitution, which was written by men who knew full well the damaging effects of religious zealots imposing sectarian dogma on everyone as state policy.

The reported introduction of the antigay radio program of Stephen Bennett underscores the importance of fighting back against the campaign of the religious right and the so-called "family values" crowd to push gays back into the closet and deny us equal civil rights. Last Saturday, GLN joined forces with the Chicago Coalition of Welcoming Churches to sponsor a screening of the pro-gay film, "Fish Can't Fly."

This Friday, tune-in as GLN again casts a critical eye upon the "ex-gay ministries" and their allied right-wing agents.

'Ex-Gays' Get Radio Network

(Huntington, Connecticut) The so-called ex-gay movement which has long complained its message is being stifled by "the homosexual agenda" is getting its own radio show to be broadcast in eight states.

Stephen Bennett and his wife Irene are launching "Straight Talk Radio" a daily half hour program. It will begin airing on October 31.

Bennett, who runs the Stephen Bennett Ministries, describes himself as "a former homosexual".

On the ministry's website Bennett says "SBM firmly believes no one is born homosexual; that unnatural homosexual attractions tragically develop early on in the childhood; and by biblically dealing with the root cause(s) of one's same-sex attraction, homosexuality can be completely overcome - just as drug addiction, alcoholism or any other sinful behavior. Men and women can then effectively move on to healthy heterosexuality - as part of God's natural, perfect design and plan for man and woman. "

Among the stations that will carry the program is KLTT 670 AM in Denver, Colorado. At 50,000 watts it is the largest Christian AM station station in America. KLTT is part of the Crawford Broadcasting Network.

Bennett says he "abandoned his 11-year promiscuous homosexual lifestyle, along with a long term homosexual relationship, after becoming a Christian in 1992."

"'Straight Talk Radio' will feature the most outspoken guests, tackle tough issues and host very lively debates, while injecting a blend of adrenaline, compassion and a bit of humor," said Bennett in a statement.

"We have two little kids who are growing up in a very different world than we did as children. I bring to the table the undeniable truth that I was not born homosexual, and that homosexual men and women can completely change," he said.

The Stephen Bennett Ministries Website encourages other stations to carry the program and claims "Your sponsorship is 100% tax deductible."

The Bennetts said in a media statement that they will "finally have their 'uncensored voice' to proclaim the truth about homosexuality, educate individuals and confront the homosexual agenda and its proponents head on – by a man who's been on ‘both sides' of the fence."

The 'ex-gay' movement has been growing more vocal over the past year.

In May, a federal judge in Baltimore issued a restraining order blocking Montgomery County public schools from instituting a new health curriculum that seeks to provide positive information for LGBT students.

Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays filed suit seeking the injunction, accusing the school district of "denigrating" so-called former gays in the materials to be used in the course. (story)

But earlier this month in Nashville, another federal judge refused to allow Love In Action ministry, which claims to counsel gay clients to turn straight, to continue "treating people". (story)

The "ex-gay organization" had sought the injunction against an order from the state Department of Mental Health & Developmental Disabilities, which found that Love In Action's two Memphis facilities were controlling patients' access to their prescription medication and thus needed to be licensed as a mental health facility.
