2nd Annual Elizabeth I. Benson Awards Benefit
Each day we hear of another tragic story of torture or life lost in Iraq as a result of the U.S. occupation. What we don’t hear about is the work that is being carried out by people and organizations here in Chicago who labor courageously and tirelessly to end the occupation and provide help for victims of violence and torture.

This benefit will provide an opportunity for Chicago-area human rights activists to gather together to celebrate the vital work carried out by two friends and their organizations on behalf of our sisters and brothers in Iraq. Our event also will raise funds to support the ongoing social justice work by Wellington Avenue United Church of Christ, which includes sanctuary for human rights activists.
In times such as these, when we often feel despair and discouragement, we want to celebrate and lift up people of faith and conscience who bring healing to men, women and children who have been, and continue to be, victims of violence.
