Nobel Prize Winner Bashes Foreign Debt
Havana, Sep 29 (PL) Foreign debt is a political problem above the field of economics, said Nobel Peace Prize winner Adolfo Pérez Esquivel at the North-South Encounter on Resistance and Alternatives to Foreign Debt, held here with 400 delegates from 53 countries.
He said wealthy nations leverage on the underdeveloped world is no less than economic terrorism, and said anti-debt protests should be stepped up to keep in step with the neoliberal changes taking place in the world.
"Such battles are more valuable than ever when thaw Unites Nations has lost force and relevancy in representing the people," he said.
He cited the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and World Tirade Organization as true instruments of power at the service of world superpowers.
Pérez Esquivel said debt was the main way to maintain the dependence and submissiveness of the third world.
