New Orleans Vegan Feast and Party

Featuring dishes by the New Orleans Asian Cajun Vegan: Green Gumbo, Jambalaya, Greens with Temeph, Red Beans and Rice, Blackened Tofish and Bread Pudding!

The dinner will benefit the Nowe Miasto Housing Collective, severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina. Since its formation in 1999, Nowe Miasto has been the office for Books 2 Prisoners and the Urban Unrest film collective, a meeting place for Critical Resistance, DIY bike repair co-op, community silk screening and photography co-op, show space and more. In the past year, the building has been used for many purposes, including The Tranny Road Show and free housing for women attending the INCITE! Color of Violence III conference. Also, in order to serve the need for low-cost housing in the New Orleans area, Nowe Miasto has recently begun its transition into an official Limited Equity Housing Co-op.

After the storms devastated the gulf coast region it has become even more essential to develop spaces for grassroots organizing, low cost housing and collective work. Nowe Miasto incurred massive devastation from flooding, roof damage and mold. The space will need a lot of work and a lot of love. The Collective remains dedicated to repair and return to meet the growing needs of New Orleanians.

Please support this rebuilding effort! The dinner is $7, beer available for donation and rad shirts for sale. Also, learn more about grassroots relief efforts in the gulf coast region and the growing Chicago solidarity for the People’s Hurricane Relief Fund.
