Transmission Line Call to Action Oct 7-14
This is an urgent notice. Because we do not have much time to promote this event, we hope that people can help us by copying this and emailing it to people.

CALL TO ACTION AGAINST THE ARROWHEAD-WESTON TRANSMISSION LINE
A general assembly of concerned citizens invites you and other allies to join in
a festive celebration of rural resistance against the 345,000 volt transmission
line that is being built by American Transmission Company. We will gather in
Marathon County, October 7-14th, where construction is currently underway.
As you read this, American Transmission Company is mowing down farmer’s crops
and cutting through woodlots along the right of way. Farmers who were counting
on this year’s yields will have to wait for compensation if it ever comes, and
landowners are witnessing their timber being stolen off of their land.
We need you to help the residents of Marathon County defend their land, homes,
and livelihoods against the Arrowhead-Weston Transmission line. Much of the
power comes from massive hydroelectric dams that have flooded an area the size
of the state of Minnesota, displacing the Pimicikamak Cree Nation from their
traditional homeland. Landowners and others have exhausted every means within
the system to stop the theft and destruction. However, the fight is just
beginning.
We look forward to seeing you October 7-14th! Bring whatever skills you have to
help those affected by this line.
We have a specific need for:
*legal funds and/or free legal advice so landowners are able to consult lawyers
when necessary.
*Signs and banners with solidarity type messages (Please don’t use this as a
time to plug your own agenda)
*Trained medics
*Musicians and artists who make things fun
*Folks willing to help set up an outdoor kitchen and find food (ie. Food Not
Bombs)
Please leave at home:
*Drugs, alcohol, pets and firearms
We will create a convergence space where we will camp and gather. Please come
self sufficient with plenty of warm clothes. We welcome families and elders.
Please contact us if you would like help arranging home stays.
For more information, please call 641-297-4900, #6555.
This call is being assembled by GASP (General Assembly to Stop the Powerline).
We are not an organization, but a concerned citizenry who are hastily doing our
best. We do not have a website, a budget or any leaders. We ask you to pass
this call onto everyone you know. It is our hope that groups will organize
themselves to come to this week of action.
