The SHORTWAVE REPORT 9/16/05 ¡LISTEN GLOBALLY!

A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion, recorded from a shortwave radio. With times and freqs for listening at home. 2 files- broadcast and slow-modem streaming. Free to rebroadcast. China, Netherlands, Cuba, and Russia.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (September 16) is up at the website
< www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml >in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:00)

This week's show features stories from China Radio International, Radio Netherlands, Radio Havana Cuba, and the Voice of Russia.
From CHINA- The Chinese President spoke at the UN Summit, pointing out the importance of the organization in maintaining world peace. The Chinese President met with President Fox of Mexico, further developing their economic and strategic ties. A report on the 6-party talks on the Korean penisula, where the impediment to progress seems to be N Korea's plans to develop a peaceful nuclear power program. Wednesday was a day of terror in Iraq with a dozen car bombs leaving at least 160 dead- eyewitness reports differ from military reports about the biggest blast in Aruba Square.
From NETHERLANDS- Israeli troops pulled out of the Gaza Strip this week, which Palestinians accepted as a victory- however getting in and out of the Gaza Strip is still controlled by Israel- here's an analysis of where the Peace Process really stands. The Netherlands will not place taxes on biodiesel fuels for the next several years in order to promote their use. In Nicaragua, the Sandanistas are gaining power and want to limit power and remove immunity from prosecution for the current President- this is quite upsetting to the US, as is the possibility of the Sandanistas returning to power.
From CUBA- Chile's Supreme Court ruled that former dictator Pinochet can face trial for the 1975 disappearances of citizens in Operation Colombo. The UN was forced to accept many conditions limiting reform because of various pressures from the US.
From RUSSIA- The US has announced it is ready to carry out preemptive nuclear strikes against terrorists or countries threatening to use weapons of mass destruction- formerly nuclear weapons were to be used as threats rather than as approved tools for sudden deployment.

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm (PST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via
There are several other streams that work better- < www.freakradio.org >Freak Radio Santa Cruz now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am (PST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)-
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)

-- Fighting for freedom is not letting your leaders think for you and decide, and following obediently behind them, or from time to time scolding them. Fighting for freedom is partaking to the full of ones capacity, thinking and deciding for oneself, taking all the responsibilities as a self-relying individual amidst equal comrades. It is true that to think for oneself, to think out what is true and right, with a head dulled by fatigue, is the hardest, the most difficult task; it is much harder than to pay and to obey. But it is the only way to freedom. To be liberated by others, whose leadership is the essential part of the liberation, means the getting of new masters instead of the old ones.
