Chicago Activist Needs Place To Live

I need a place to live by Sept. 1
For the last five years I've been living with my girlfriend Maggie. You might have seen us marching together in many of the protests. We were together on the bus to DC in October of 2002.

Maggie has been offered a job at Stanford University in Northern California and she's taking it. I am staying in Chicago for the time being, as I run ChicagoPoetry.com and the Chicago Poetry Fest and I am rooted here.

I'm looking for a cheap room to rent for the next several months (minimum up until March 2006). Preferably it should be someone active in the progressive movements. In the case of a room mate situation, I would be capable of paying my share of rent / utilities and also I have a lot of energy to help out with current causes. I would love to "get involved" -- that would help me keep my mind off the pain of having to part with Maggie. Is there anyone out there that wants to help a fellow artist out?

I'm very active in Chicago's literary scene. Unfortunately, being a literary figure doesn't usually translate into being "well to do." So I'm not looking for anything expensive. A room in the range of $250 to $350 a month would be nice, less is better. Hopefully something with radiators so there aren't any big gas bills in the middle of the winter. But I'm flexible and willing to explore all options.

I'm pretty cool with just about anything, except constant drama or perpetual emotional crisis. Just need a place to crash and a place to hook up my computer. I'm a pretty quiet person when I'm home, but I'm use to noise (once lived above a bar, and right now I live across the street from a noisy 4 AM nightclub), so I'm cool with musicians or people who like to have friends over or whatever. It doesn't bother me.

If you need a room mate or know of someone renting a cheap room or cheap apartment, or can help out in any way, please contact me at chicagopoetry (at) chicagopoetry.com
