Pastors for Peace Arrive in Mexico Today

Pastors for Peace Arrive in Mexico Today
Mexico, Jul 21 (Prensa Latina) The 16th Cuba Friendship Caravan, which the organization Pastors for Peace has sponsored since 1992, will arrive on Thursday in Mexico from the United States and Canada with 80 tons of humanitarian aid for the Island.

Mexican coordinator of the solidarity initiative Victor Vargas told Prensa Latina that the crossing of the US border with Mexico has been invariably complicated, due to pressures and obstacles imposed by that nationīs border agents.

The Committee of Friends of Cuba in Tamaulipas will be responsible for welcoming the Pastors for Peace Caravan on the international bridge of Reynosa, a city where the group will spend the night before continuing to Tampico port.

The Caravan officially started the tour of United States on June 30 in New York and three days later from Montreal, Canada.

The group, said Vargas, is made up of clergy and representatives of 15 US and Canadian religious organizations, as well as laypeople and activists for peace and members of different organizations of solidarity with Cuba.

The ecumenical Pastors for Peace, a project of the Inter-religious Foundation for Community Organization (IFCO), has brought some 2,500 tons of solidarity aid to the Cuban people between 1992 and 2004, without a license from the US Treasury Department.

The Pastors for Peace Caravan will stay on the island until July 30 with the aim learning more about Cuban reality.
