Honduran Named for Nobel Peace Prize

Honduran Named for Nobel Peace Prize
Tegucigalpa, Jul 6 (PL) Bertha Oliva, coordinator of the Committee of Relatives of Detained-Missing in Honduras (COFADEH), has been nominated for the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize, the humanitarian group confirmed Wednesday.

According to the text, the United Nations has highlighted Oliva, 49, as one of the most important human rights defenders worldwide. In fact, an international jury chose her among 2,000 women from 150 countries.

COFADEH was founded in 1982 by 69 relatives of missing people, including Oliva´s husband Tomas Nativi, leader of the People´s Revolutionary Union.

Oliva´s nomination honors her over 20 year-work in favor of peace, amid attacks and defamatory remarks by those responsible for the suffering of many Honduran families.
