St. George“s, Jun 22 (Prensa Latina) Caribbean Community (CARICOM) leaders will hold a one-day summit with Venezuela“s President Hugo Chavez next week in Caracas, Grenada“s Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell informed.
According to Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC), he said the meeting on June 29 is at the invitation of President Hugo Chavez and would deal primarily with energy-related matters.
"President Chavez has asked that we meet with him to discuss ways in making some concessions and support to the countries that are now having to buy energy at very exorbitant costs," he said.
Dr Mitchell said that while the other logistics of the meeting were being finalized, the regional leaders would seek to get additional assistance from the Venezuelans.
"We would be meeting with President Chavez of Venezuela to look at ways in which Venezuela can provide more assistance to the region in addition to what the Trinidad government and people have been doing," he said.
CARICOM leaders will meet in St. Lucia July 3-6 for their annual summit.
