Future of Food Film Screening At DePaul

Weds the 8th there will be a film screening of the Future of Food, at the Student Center at DePaul. Snacks start at 6:30, movie starts at 7. We hope to raise awareness about the upcoming Bio Democracy Festival happening June 18-21 in Phillidelphia and the same convergence happening in Chicago of April 2006. The student Center is located in the middle of campus between Belden and Sheffield. Hope to see you there.

Future of food presents an opposing view on the corporate attempt to control our food supply and to educate people about what is happening to our food supply with out our knowledge and with out our consent.

For the last 12 years 503 biotechnology companies have been meeting annually to discuss the response to the imminent threat of government price controls on breakthrough drugs, political and public reaction to the genetically modified foods that were poised to enter supermarkets, Advocating for tax incentives that better reflected the risk and social benefit of biotech investments, working with Congress and the FDA to streamline the regulatory process; BUT NOT TO DISSCUSS PUBLIC SAFTY!!! This meeting is supported by The University of Chicago, University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The name of this convergence is BIO, Biotechnology Industrial Organization.

Gathering at the same time and location as BIO is BioDemocracy; a gathering to teach and demonstrate alternatives to corporate power and biotechnology and to demand what is necessary to support life: clean air and water, shelter, safe food, energy, biodiversity Every year there are teach-ins, guerilla gardening, critical mass, day of action and festivals to oppose the BIO meeting.
