Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) is the lead voice of the nation’s antiwar movement. IVAW played a central role in recent demonstrations in Fayetteville, NC marking the second anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. In an interview with Mother Jones, National Coordinator Mike Hoffman said, "It’s bad and it’s getting worse every single day. Basically, every single American knows someone who has been killed by an Iraqi and every Iraqi knows someone who has been killed by an American…we are just over-extended, under-manned, under-equipped, under-trained. And it’s wearing on the guys, long deployments, low pay, they are trying to cut benefits, they’re trying to cut the pay over there. This is ruining the morale for the guys." Hoffman served as a Lance Corporal in the Marine Corps during the invasion. Aaron Vogel, whose photography will display on June 11, served as an Army Reservist during the invasion. Nick Przybla, who is directing the documentary to be shown on June 11 also served in Iraq.
Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) is a group of veterans who have served since September 11th, 2001 including Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. We are committed to saving lives and ending the violence in Iraq by an immediate withdrawal of all occupying forces. We also believe that the governments that sponsored these wars are indebted to the men and women who were forced to fight them and must give their Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, and Airmen the benefits that are owed to them upon their return home.
