THIS MONTH’S SHOW INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING FEATURES:
We focus on environmental issues, first looking at the local level, such as pollution in urban neighborhoods, and then taking it to the global stage fighting investments of mass destruction.
The Air We Breathe in Pilsen - For the past few years, Pilsen residents have faced many challenges. But the greatest has come from something they need every moment of life – air. Pollution from local factories impacts this primarily Latino working class community in many ways. In this piece we travel to Pilsen to witness the late-night pollution affecting the air we breathe. We’ll also see how the community is fighting to stop it.
Stop The Pollution - Standing outside the H Kramer Foundry in Pilsen during the day, you don’t see much pollution. But the hazards you can’t see can be the most dangerous. Faced with late-night, noxious emissions from the plant, residents are fighting for better air. This follow up to “The Air We Breathe in Pilsen” looks at some of those efforts.
Rainforest Action Network Demonstration - On April 12, 2005 Rain Forest Action Network activists across the country took to the streets. To bring attention to how personal banking choices are affecting the planet, Chicago RAN sent inspectors to Bank One headquarters to search for investments of mass destruction. In this piece, we join the ongoing search and see how your banking choices can make a difference.
M-19 - On March 19, 2005 protesters of the war and occupation of Iraq marched down Clark and State streets after being denied a permit to march down Michigan Ave. Despite the oppressive presence of the Chicago police in full riot gear, Chicagoan’s continued their resistance to the war in Iraq and U.S. military intervention worldwide.
