Sad and enraging news from our compas in Honduras. For those of you that don;t know the CNTC - they are an organization made up of landless farmworkers who, with so few resources available to them, carry on a struggle for a piece of land to work with dignity and peace. the price they pay is all too often this tragic. please forward and look for ways to plug into a response to this murder.

Honduran Campesino Organization leadership assassinated in El Progresso.

On May 24th at 11:30 a.m. the Secretary General of the Region of El Progresso was assassinated on a city bus by an unknown assailant. EDILSON ROBERTO LEMUS CALDERÓN was riding on said bus when it was flagged down by the assailant. Upon bording the bus the gunman without uttering any words fired four shots into Edilson's head and took off. He fled toward an unidentified car that sped him away once the deed was done.

This murder comes in a long line of repressive acts against the CNTC (and other groups like them) made up of the poorest sector struggling for a small bit of land and dignity.

The CNTC (Central Nacional de Trabajoadores del Campo - the National Center for Rural Workers) demands that the authorities thoroughly investigate this hired hit and that justice be served in favor of the poor for a change.

The companero was to be buried on the 25th of May. He leaves behind his family with no means to provide for themselves.

Por este medio les comunico, que el día de ayer (24 de Mayo, 2005) fue asesinado el Secretario General de la Regional de El Progreso, Yoro,
compañero EDILSON ROBERTO LEMUS CALDERÓN a las 11:30 am, en el interior de un bus Urbano, Número 70 de El Progreso, donde el criminal le hizo parada a dicho bus y sin mediar palabras le disparo 4 veces en la cabeza al compañero huyendo
donde lo esperaba un vehículo desconocido el que se dio a la fuga una vez logrando el objetivo.

La CNTC esta exigiendo que se investigue este asesinato por criminales a sueldo y que se haga prevalecer la justicia a favor de los Pobres.

El compañero será sepultado hoy en la Aldea de Urraco Pueblo, dejando a su familia de pan en mano.

La CNTC esta de luto.
