Now More Than Ever - Stand Up For Freedom In Palestine!

On Sunday, May 8, the Chicago chapter of the International Solidarity Movement will hold our monthly potluck dinner meeting at the ISM apartment. Our potluck meetings normally begin at 5PM, however, if the weather looks like it will be warm enough and without rain in the forecast--we may begin at 4PM with a BBQ in the back patio. Please contact us directly at either ISMinChicago (at) aol.com or 773-489-3505 for location and further details. If you would like to support our work, please consider sending a donation to our travel fund for volunteers heading for Palestine. Contributions can be mailed to: ISM-Chicago, P.O. Box 220685, Chicago, IL 60622

While the world believes the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is being resolved and that Sharon has become “a herald of peace,” on the ground every day in Occupied Palestine, it is apartheid, and not peace, that is being constructed. It is more important than ever to come to Palestine to join Palestinian nonviolent resistance to the Israeli Military Occupation!

The International Solidarity Movement (ISM) needs activists who are willing to commit to the principles of non-violent action, to put their bodies where their hearts are in defense of human rights and justice. You must be willing to participate in our training and screening process before traveling to Palestine. We can assist you with fundraising but cannot fund your travel in full.

We urgently request your presence here with us in Palestine from now until June to support ongoing Palestinian non-violent initiatives and to join our Freedom Summer 2005 campaign beginning mid-June.

Palestinian communities are asking that ISM activists support their non-violent demonstrations against the continued construction of the Wall and in their various efforts to remain steadfast on the land of their ancestors despite the continuing land theft and the constant violence of the Israeli military and illegal settlers.

In an effort to eliminate witnesses to the war crimes committed by the Israeli military and armed settlers, the Israeli authorities have been denying human rights activists access to Gaza and the West Bank. We must not allow them to succeed in isolating the Palestinian people!

Please see our website: www.palsolidarity.org for information on how to join us. More details on our summer campaign will follow shortly.

In solidarity & struggle,

The International Solidarity Movement

Friday, April 29: Dance to the Music & Support Chicago Peace Activist Traveling to Palestine

Heartland Cafe, 7000 N. Glenwood Avenue, Chicago, 773-465-8005
9:30 PM, $7.00 Suggested Donation

On April 29, 2005 the Heartland Cafe will host a fundraising concert for a local peace activist traveling to Palestine this summer. The Heartland is a longtime supporter of activism in Chicago and a great place to relax with friends or get out to dance. The bands will include The Dirty Blue, Eshu, and Bird Names. If the good cause and good music are not enough to get you out of your house, the event will also have a silent auction with such homemade goodies as knitted arm-warmers.

The activist will be traveling with the International Women's Peace Service (IWPS). IWPS-Palestine documents human rights abuses, nonviolently intervenes in abuses, and works with the media. They work closely with grassroots movements in Palestine and Israel, includes joining demonstrations and opposition to the Apartheid Wall, helping remove roadblocks, and accompanying ambulances and Palestinians while they farm.

If you cannot attend but would like to donate funds to the female activist or have any questions please email circle (at) riseup.net. Donations can also be sent to: ISM-Chicago, ATTN: IWPS, P.O. Box 220685, Chicago, IL 60622 (please make checks payable to ISM-Chicago
