The True Story? "2 held on $30,000 each in fight with off-duty cop"

Did a boozy off-duty cop, forgetting his gun, mouth-off to two men who gave him a dose of medicine usually prescribed by the guardians of order? When cops beat a man, the victim is held on $100,000 bond for resisting arrest and aggravated battery. If he's still alive.

NORTHWEST SIDE -- Two men accused of beating up an off-duty Chicago police officer Saturday outside a Northwest Side restaurant were each ordered held in lieu of $30,000 bail Sunday.

Sean Moffat, also known as Devin Kiernan, 22, of Indianapolis and Peter Regali, 24, of the 7400 block of North Harlem Avenue are charged with aggravated battery.

The officer was waiting for food at 3:26 a.m. in a restaurant in the 5500 block of North Harlem when he got into a quarrel with two other men, Cook County Assistant State's Atty. Mark Hitt said. A security guard broke up the quarrel, but the two men then allegedly grabbed the officer and dragged him into the street, Hitt said. They kicked and beat the officer, causing cuts to his eye that required stitches, he said.
