  • A DVD screening & a discussion of Gillo Pontecorvo's classic film of the Algerian War and implications for today.

    When: Saturday April 2 - 2:00 PM
    Where: ACME ART WORKS, 1741 N. Western Ave.
    (at St. Paul Street , Chicago, two blocks south of the Western stop on the CTA Blue Line.)

  • Introduction to the film by Robert Hughes of the Open University of the Left.

    Panel Discussion with:

  • Lou Turner, about Frantz Fanon, the Algerian Revolution, and the present world situation. (Lou is a Fanon scholar, author of Frantz Fanon, Soweto and American Black Thought and contributor to Frantz Fanon: a Critical Reader)
  • Richard Reilly,Chicago Middle East peace & solidarity activist, about the film, Algeria, Iraq and insurgency
  • David Williams, coordinator of the Open University of the Left, about Camus, Algeria and Iraq.

    How Much: $5 donation if you have it; more if you're willing; no one turned away. Food and beverages are available from the Black Water Cafe, located inside the Acme complex.
