Ken Hunt (more recently known as Sketch), 34, journalist, poet, musician, performer, pagan, anarchist, ESL tutor and native of Aberdeen, WA, died suddenly of injuries in Chicago on March 21, 2005.

Sketch was admired as the artist engagé; s/he was a staunch supporter of ideas and people that question social norms and conventions. While recently becoming vegetarian, coming out as genderqueer and preferring gender nuetral pronouns, s/he was still heavily involved in the gay male leather scene. This is just one example of the extremely complex nature of Sketch's personality.

As a writer & performer, s/he was a founder and participant of Pe.A.Ch. (Perfomance Art Church) in Austin, TX, precursor to the Feast of Fools. S/he was a member of the Albuquerque Slam Team, a regular performer at Homolatte, & hir last literary position was the Assoc. Publisher at Blithe House Quarterly: Queer Fiction Lives Here (blithe.com). S/he also self-published four books and several zines. Some works include This Carass is a Road Map, Aerodrome, and Perpetually Bad Timing . S/he was a journalist for the Austin Chronicle, Independent Media Center (Austin, Madison and Seattle), Seattle Times, New York Times, and published in many community and weekly papers. In Boston s/he was a reporter and producer for the Allston-Brighton Edition, a progressive public affairs news program. S/he earned hir BA in English and Journalism from Univ. of Washington/Seattle, hir Masters in English from Univ. of Texas/Austin, had worked towards a PhD in Journalism at Univ. of Wisconsin/Madison and was currently enrolled in a Masters of Education/ESL program. S/he also taught ESL at the Howard Area Community Center in Chicago.

As a musician, Sketch was a member of Seattle bands Harvey Wallbanger and Self-Help Seminar and was in the Chicago noise bands Unplanned Pregnancy, Mayor Daley, and hir artistic project This Is Bullshit.

Politically, Sketch was a fierce anarchist pacifist and member of the Chicagoland Anarchist Network, Mad Tea Party, Queer & Trans Caucus, and Food Not Bombs. Sketch was one of the main organizers of last year's anarchist feeder march which crashed pride and ended up clashing with the homophobes. S/he even ended up writing a song about the incident for hir band "this is bullshit." We find it really sad that Sketch was not able to live long enough to see the end of Bush's "war without an end" considering it was such a major source of Sketch's depression, but find it fitting that Sketch's very last action in life was to attend a major antiwar rally with friends and comrades.

Beloved child of Dr. Kenneth (Psyche) Hunt of Aberdeen and the late Carole Hunt. Cherished sibling of Susan Hunt of Bellingham, WA. Dearest nephew of John Hunt of Longmont, CO; Julie (Ross McGregor) White of Toronto and Janet Anderson of Edgewood, MD. Great-nephew of Ethel Eshinsky. Cousin of Megan Hunt of Vancouver and Erin Hunt of Longmont, CO. Sketch leaves behind many friends and comrades in Chicago, Aberdeen, Austin, Albuquerque, New York, Madison, and Boston. Sketch will be missed by many people, from many different overlapping communities and social circles- geographical, spiritual, mental and political.

A second memorial and picnic in Chicago, April 9, 12-4p at Waldheim Cementary, near the Haymarket Memorial in honor of Sketch's anarchist beliefs, 863 S. Des Plaines Ave, Forest Park, IL.
