Chicago residents are working with the Rainforest Action Network to ensure that Bank One stops making investments of mass destruction and joins its competitors in adopting environmental and social investment standards.

Last week, activists picketed the Bank One headquarters three times and held protests at two Bank One branch offices. They are concerned that Bank One and its parent JPMorgan Chase use customer's money to fund illegal logging, human rights abuses and America's oil addiction.

JPMorgan Chase and Bank One are the largest bank in the country still operating without environmental investment standards. Their two largest competitors, Citigroup and Bank of America, both adopted comprehensive environmental policies last year after campaigns organized by the Rainforest Action Network.

Activists included community members, students from the University of Chicago, DePaul, Loyola, and Northeastern Illinois University, and organizers with the Rainforest Action Network. They encouraged Bank One customers to speak with their branch managers and to call JPMorgan Chase CEO William Harrison demanding that JPMC exceed the precedents set by its competitors and adopt environmental investment standards today.
