Third Coast Press, a progressive Chicago-based newspaper, is looking for writers, editors, illustrators, designers, cartoonists, and advertising sales representatives. We have been around since January of 2004 and currently have a distribution of 8000 with an increasingly loyal readership.
Almost all of our coverage focuses on Chicago. We have a strong news and features section, focusing on stories of progressive interest. We also review high-quality, non-corporate, locally-based art, theatre, music, poetry, etc. We are looking to do more to cover the local businesses that help make Chicago a world-class city. We do not write "puff pieces", but we do want to encourage people to shop locally instead of supporting large, impersonal corporations.
We do not follow any particular ideology and welcome diversity of views. However, most of the feature-type stories that we run is traditional journalism rather than "opinion" pieces.
Unfortunately, we can not pay contributors at this time (except for commission-based ad sales positions). However, we offer a high degree of editorial freedom and the opportunity to help create a top-notch progressive publication in Chicago on a grassroots level.
Shoot me an email if you want to learn more. I prefer to meet people before they become contributors; I like to get a feel for who will be on the staff.
