WAR IN IRAN?

Yesterday, Iranian Intelligence Minister Ali Yunesi threatened that American spy drones flying over Iran would be shot down. This backs up an order given out in December by an Iranian brigadier general to shoot down such aircraft also the media in Iran has been obsessed for the past few weeks about unidentified aircraft over their country spying on nuclear facilities. An incident also occurred yesterday near the town of Deilam, Iran involving an explosion and reportedly anti-aircraft fire. At first it was rumored to be an attack but later said to be an accident. Now this is even more interesting; recently the Iranian military said they have found spy equipment inside of unmanned American drones they shot down. The Washington Post stated the drones had been flying over Iran from U.S. bases in Iraq and were equipped with filters to pick up traces of nuclear activity. When exactly these drones were shot down is unknown. Keep this in mind, before the invasion of Iraq in 2003, U.S. aircraft flying over Iraq had engaged the Iraqi military from time to time in minor skirmishes and launched short, localized attacks on Iraqi air defense facilities on an almost daily basis to reinforce the no-fly zones that had been in place since the 1991 Gulf War. This week Iran has announced their new alliance with Syria while the U.S. pressured Syria to withdraw their troops from Lebanon after the Prime Minister of Lebanon was assassinated in a bomb attack on Monday. Last week North Korea announced they had nuclear weapons which is also an ally of Iran. Condoleeza Rice has said the Bush administration currently doesn't plan on attacking Iran anytime soon while also saying that Bush has not ruled out military options. It is hard to say what will happen in the near future.
