A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion, recorded from a shortwave radio. With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, China, Spain, Russia, and Cuba.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (February 18) is up at the website
in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (28:55)

This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, China Radio International, Spanish National Radio, The Voice Of Russia, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From NETHERLANDS- As the Kyoto Protocol came into effect on Wednesday, the world press focused much of its work on analyzing the environmental state of the planet. A spokesman for the Pew Center on the Environment gives an overview of Kyoto Protocol and the effect of the US refusal to join in reducing greenhouse gases. A Dutch press review on Kyoto and the shocking weather changes occuring this month in the Netherlands and around the world.
From CHINA- A member of Friends of the Earth explains that by ignoring the world mandate on climate change, the US will fall behind in the development of new technology to reduce pollution. Australia is the second biggest polluter to refuse to sign the Protocol and the government is under severe criticism from its own citizens.
From SPAIN- A Spanish press review on the environment and the Kyoto Protocol. Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams is in Spain on a book tour and to try to negotiate peace between the Basque separatists and the Spanish government. India and Pakistan agreed to start a mutual bus service across divided Kashmir.
From RUSSIA- A commentary on the assassination of the Prime Minister of Lebanon, which has led to a few countries blaming Syria, already a target of the US. Then a commentary on how relations between the US and Russia will largely determine the state of affairs worldwide in the 21st century, pointing out Henry Kissinger's quiet visit to see Russian President Putin.
From CUBA- Dorothy Stang, a 74 year old nun from the US, was murdered in Brazil for her work with landless peasants in the Amazon rainforest. A Viewpoint on the signing of a pact between Venezuela and Brazil on mutual development in the oil and energy fields.

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm (PST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via
There are several other streams that work better-  Freak Radio Santa Cruz now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am (PST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)-
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative-
I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)
