On Tuesday, February 8th, Cook County Judge Nicholas Ford will decide whether or not to give police torture victim Robert Ornelas a new trial. The decision could be monumental in the fight to win justice for the Chicago police torture victims and all of those who are wrongfully convicted. The issue of torture will again be brought to the table as newly discovered evidence in a non death row case.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan oversees all 118 Burge police torture cases after being removed from States Attorney Richard Devine because of his conflict of interest: Devine defended Police Torturer, former Police Commander Jon Burge, during the investigation that lead to Burge^?s firing. He was also Assistant States
Attorney to then States Attorney, Mayor Richard M. Daley, when many of the Torture victims were prosecuted.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan has already successfully shut down the torture claim of Victor "Cortez" Brown even though there has been sufficient evidence that torture has occurred. We ask that Lisa Madigan withdraw her petition to deny Robert Ornelas a new trial and that Judge Ford grant Robert's petition for a new
trial.

Robert Ornelas was tortured at the hands of now deceased detective Yucitis, one of the infamous former police commander Burge detectives. Jon Burge was fired in 93 for the torture of over 118 Black and Latino men with the use of electro-shock, suffocation, burnings and severe beatings.

The original trial & convicting judge was a Judge Ralph Reyna, a judge who also has a record of corruption.

Robert Ornelas was arrested on November 15, 1990 in Frankfurt Illinois along with three other suspects. The Chicago police department was notified and he was transferred to Area 2 for interrogation where he was beat and tortured and forced to sign false confession to a crime he did not commit.

Robert told his mother, Mary Ornelas, "If the cops had beat you or anyone else the way they beat me you'd confess too."

"There were no real witnesses, there was no weapon, the police would not use statements form Robert's alibi witnesses because they had had a record but the used testimonies from ex cons to convict," Mary Ornelas told EIE correspondent.

We ask that everyone show up and be counted at Robert Ornelas' court date on January 8 to bear witness that justice must be served, and to support Mary Ornelas the mother of Robert Ornelas. Stand up and be counted. Enough Is Enough!

Robert's Mother and Father, other families of Police Torture Victims and activists will be available from 8-8:30AM to speak to the press
