Public Forum:

"Democracy" Under Occupation…
Will Elections Bring Peace to Iraq?

When: Wednesday, February 2, 7pm

GEORGE BUSH says that the January 30 elections in Iraq prove that the country is on the path to "freedom." But of the more than 7,000 candidates on the ballot, over 6,000 are running anonymously—because of the threat of assassination to anyone seen working with the U.S.

And in some places, less than 10 percent of eligible voters will actually be able to make it to the polls. In Anbar province—where the city of Falluja is, and discontent against the U.S. runs high—there are just 32 polling places for a total of 800,000 people.

Meanwhile, U.S. forces continue to round up anyone even suspected of being connected to the growing resistance—including huge numbers of ordinary Iraqis. Can this "democracy at gunpoint" be a step towards peace in Iraq?

Join the International Socialist Organization for a discussion of what it will take to end the war—and what we in the U.S. can do to end the occupation and bring the troops home.
