Boycott Corporate Economy on Inauguration Day

Boycott the Corporate Economy on Inauguration Day
Dear fellow citizens,

For those fed up with politics as usual, here's a simple way to make a difference: on Thursday, Jan. 20th - Inauguration Day -- DON'T BUY ANYTHING on that day.

Get your car fueled, pick up groceries, purchase appliances, etc. on the day before or the day after. If enough people withhold their spending on just one day, it will send a chill through the arrogant circles of power now dominating our economic and political life.

This might seem like an outlandish idea, but it has at least one historical precedent -- and it is currently being practiced now. Several years ago, I heard a lecture by a former member of the African National Congress, who outlined the real reason that the apartheid regime of South Africa finally collapsed. It wasn't all due to the imprisoned ANC leader Nelson Mandela, though he was certainly the famous face of opposition.

The real reason why the seemingly powerless masses of oppressed blacks triumphed is that they completely refused to participate economically in the government. When blacks received traffic tickets, they tore them up; they collectively refused to pay taxes or any other fees to the government. This internal economic boycott, combined with the international boycott of South Africa, was the factor that ultimately forced the seemingly invincible apartheid regime to its knees.

Currently, economic boycotts of US corporations are being practiced in the Middle East, Asia and Europe. You won't hear much about it in the mainstream press, as it is controlled by those very same corporations. But millions of people worldwide are voicing their opposition to Bush administration policies by refusing to buy products from the corporate sponsors of this regime -- and it is having a pronounced impact on corporate profits overseas. you can find out more at www.boycottbush.org

Please pass this along to as many people as you can.

Thanks, Boycott Boy
