Deadlines for Daybreak #6 and other updates

shirtdesign.jpg
Hi everyone,
The submissions deadline for issue #6 is January 15 2005 and the ad deadline is January 20 2005. We're trying to stay on schedule for this issue so please contact us if you need an extension. Also if you're interested in helping us put together this issue (gathering articles/art, getting ads, etc) then just let us know what you're interested in.
In other news we've finally had time and energy to update the website and finish posting the rest of the articles from #5. We've still got some copies left so contact us if you're interested. Below I've pasted on our Submissions and Volunteer Guidelines.
Take care

Submissions

Daybreak! is a completely volunteer-run anti-profit anarchist newspaper. We've chosen not to be just another newspaper filled with theoretical gobbley-gook or radical posturing, but one that provides inspiring and useful news and information to people both in and outside radical communities. We need for you to provide articles and art that people want to look at. Send us local and international news, art, information, DIY, reviews, letters, art, comics, exciting history, fun stuff, etc! Send us SOMETHING!

News: international or local fights against authority like protests, movements, or local resistance.

Features: We want to publish pieces about subjects like sex-positive feminism, experiments in anarchism, cool projects, local radical history like the coop wars or the emma center, and lots more!

Columns: If you’re interested in writing a column (any format) than please send us a sample of your work.

Art: We always need art to decorate the zine with. Send us a copy of something or write and ask what we particularly need.

Comics: We need short and radical comic strips that are actually funny!

Also send us anything else we might conceivably publish (write us with questions)!

Volunteer

We would love for people to volunteer with us. We have a lot of stuff to do, some of it fun. Kind of.

Zine, music, and book reviewers- If you do this you get to keep whatever you review from us or you can review anything you really like of your own. The only qualification is you have to be a decent writer with decent taste which, if you’re reading Daybreak, you probably are.

Distributors- We need people to volunteer to become hubs in their area to distribute Daybreak to all the little places around their house that we don’t know about. It’s decentralization in action! We can send them to you if you’re far away (and you can give a couple bucks for postage) or you can pick it up at one of our distribution hubs in the Twin Cities. Arise Bookstore, Hard Times Café, or Extreme Noise in Minneapolis.

Writers- We always need things people write, especially local, so get it to us!

Pamphlet Distro- With all the business we’ve had lately we decided to shut down the good ol pamphlet distro. If anyone is willing to get that running again we have boxes of already printed zines and pamphlets that we’d consider donating.

Computer work- Our website needs to be updated and improved. If you have experience with website design we’d be happy to have you work on it!

Newspaper Shitwork- Gathering articles, layout, editing, correspondence, and printing.

Fundraising- We need people to organize benefits and bake sales, print and sell shirts and patches, and by any means possible pay for our basic operating costs.

Anyone who helps us gets awarded 1 punk point (in the form of used Kleenex) for each hour of sweaty thankless labor. In case you’re interested in joining eventually, we ask that you volunteer for one issue after which both us and you will decide if you become a full collective member.
