Throwing A Spin In The Work(s) Reception & Hip Hop Sat 12/11
Closing reception for art exhibition exploring working class identity. Performances by FARM CREW, DIATRIBE & THE LANDLORDS. Free, all ages!

Coming up at Mess Hall:
Closing reception and concert for "Throwing A Spin in the Work(s) (phase 2)", an art exhibition curated by Jennifer Breckner in collaboration with Kevin Coval.
“throwing a spin in the work(s): contemporary approaches to working class identity” is a two-part exhibition that explores the nuances of working class identity through the work of several contemporary artists, as well as events based in popular culture and academia.
The exhibition features work by Shawnee Barton, Liana Dragoman, Kevin Jerome Everson, Jonathan Gillette, Christopher Olszewski and Brian Stansbury. These are all artists whose work is influenced by and engages with the often complex relationship between class status and the art world. Their work challenges our preconceived notion of the homogeneity of the so-called "working class".
“throwing a spin in the work(s)” phase two has just enjoyed a five week stay at Mess Hall, an experimental cultural center and events space in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood.
Mess Hall is hosting a closing reception and free concert in celebration of this exhibition.
From 5-8 pm on Saturday, December 11, 2004, join us for a free, all ages show from hip hop locals Farm Crew (http://www.farmcrew.com) and special guests The Landlords and Diatribe. Refreshments will be served, and visitors are welcome to bring something to share.
