Bush era, and sample a smorgasbord of local live music, political art, spoken-word poetry and political satire.

It’s the party of the decade, after the election of the century.

“One State, Two State” will include music from Rebecca F (folk/rock),
Star People (hiphop/reggae), PAL (punk), and the Chariots (emo), screenings of provocative new film shorts from producers, including the Guerilla News Network, Street Level Youth Media, and a plethora of other artists and entertainers. Spoken-word poet Triple Blak, recently featured on Def Jam Poetry, will perform between the bands.

The two groups chose election day for their benefit both to highlight the need for a truly free and independent press for the survival of democracy and to provide a space for alternative coverage and discussion of unfolding events. Besides their commitment to putting on a great show, they’re encouraging people to use the event to forge new alliances and fire up interest in political activism in metro
Chicago.

Proceeds from the event will support the publication of Third Coast Press and the ongoing work of Chicago Indymedia.

>> Third Coast Press is a relatively new alternative monthly newspaper (launched in January 2004) that has caught Chicagoans’ attention by offering a vibrant, smart perspective on local news of progressive interest, spotlighting alternative arts, culture and businesses. They operate with a dedicated, all-volunteer staff of writers, designers, comic artists and editors and will continue to turn heads and minds every month.

>> Chicago Indymedia is part of a global network of politically progressive alternative media centers that encourage grassroots organizations, media activists and ordinary citizens to “be the media,” providing a forum for sharing news and info about struggles for social and economic justice. Chicago Indymedia currently produces a dynamic web-based newswire with feature stories on local issues, a locally broadcast radio show, and a monthly television program on CANTV.
Chicago Media Action, Chicago Filmmakers, Hasta Cuando, HammerHard MediaWorks and other Chicago-area independent news venues will also be collaborating in the event.

Admission to the event is $10 - $50 … or more for donors who are willing to contribute more. No-one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Attendees must be aged 21 or over.
