As some of you have probably heard, Tatima (one of the three Lincoln Park Zoo elephants) was found dead in her stall on Saturday, October 16, reportedly from tuberculosis. Tatima was 35. This is tragic news for all of us who have worked tirelessly to secure the retirement of Peaches, Wankie, and Tatima.
Now more than ever, our help is needed as Tatima’s premature death clearly shows that there are grave problems at the Lincoln Park Zoo, and many questions unanswered. Our fight continues to help the surviving elephants, Peaches and Wankie, find sanctuary.
We are planning a protest at Lincoln Park Zoo on
October 20 from 11:30a.m. to 1p.m. directly in front of the elephant exhibit, which is located at the north end of the park adjacent to the Lincoln Park Conservancy. The zoo needs to know that Chicago’s caring community will not stand by quietly as Peaches and Wankie head toward another frigid winter indoors, without their beloved companion of decades.
