Coverup: Behind the Iran Contra Affair, including a trailer for her acclaimed film
The Panama Deception, a short video of comments from military personnel after a screening of Fahrenheit 9/11 in Fayetteville, home to Ft. Bragg, and more!
Coverup: Behind the Iran Contra Affair (1988, 76 mins., video) is a contemporary classic in political documentary filmmaking. More timely than ever, this multiple-award winning film exposes several of the most disturbing chapters in the history of U.S. covert foreign policy. It presents a tale of politics, drugs, hostages, weapons, assassinations, covert operations and the ultimate plan to suspend the U.S. Constitution.
Coverup was the first film to reveal the ‘October Surprise’ hostage deal between the Reagan/Bush campaign and Iran, and is the only film which presents a comprehensive overview of the most important stories suppressed during the Iran Contra hearings.
The original film has been updated with information from recent court cases and events. Narrated by Elizabeth Montgomery and with music by Ruben Blades, Richard Elliot, Pink Floyd, and Lou Reed.
Barbara Trent is an Oscar-winning filmmaker, seasoned activist, and trail blazer for change. She has publicly exposed criminal activities in the White House, Pentagon, and CIA; and has been the target of at least three FBI counter intelligence operations. In 1992 she won an Academy Award for
The Panama Deception, a searing documentary on the Reagan/Bush invasion of Panama. She is the founder of the
Empowerment Project, a training and support center for film and mediamakers that works to democratize access to the media and provide film and video resources to individuals and organizations working to further important social and artistic goals.
Note: Barbara Trent has agreed to appear for a second night at the Saturday screening. If you missed the Friday Filmmakers' screening, don't pass up this chance to meet the filmmaker.
