Lumpen wants you to come watch debates at rodan

While 70 million americans hold their breaths hoping their preferred trojan horse gets into the minds of other americans, we'll be watching a meta-cc-ed version of the debates sending an experimental, perhaps surreal, running commentary on this most critical moment in american politics.
Sitting with a couple dozen cholos in a swank super lounge watching the presidential debates may seem like a strange way to open the Select Media Festival, but it actually makes perfect sense to us.

Our goal is to see how politics, technology and the arts intersect to make new commentaries on our cultures.

We'll be watching the debates at Rodan (1530 n. milwaukee) on the big video screen using meta-cc, a project by a team of artist/programmers from NY, California and Austin. It's their inaugural exhibition of this innovative new media work.

Basically meta -cc takes the close captioning texts from television broadcasts, searches for keywords and then accesses a database of alternative news feeds live on the in ter web. Then it places the news feeds in a customized news ticker displayed upon the bottom of the screen.

By using meta-cc we'll be able to watch the debates with running commentary from real time alternative news sources while the debates run live for 90 minutes.

We will be drinking, eating and then hopefully celebrating.
Join us early to watch the debates.
Come later and kick back a few.

If you donate $5 you get the new kick ass select #8 samizdat dvd that features so many illegal art videos on it that manufacturers refused to replicate it.
