Join activists from across the metropolitan region this Saturday, October 9, beginning at 9:30 AM, for the Earth Charter Community Summit , one of a series of enlightening and uplifting summits occurring across the country and the world to bring together activists committed to progressive economic, political, social and environmental activism -- and from these gatherings strengthen our understanding of our interdependence and sharpen our efforts to build a more just and ecologically healthy world, grounded in our committment to working and living as activists within ethical, sustainable lifeways.

Check out our Summit Site for a full schedule of events and more info about our program.

The October 9 Chicago Summit is one of a series of gatherings across the planet this fall that give participants an opportunity to brainstorm and learn more about taking concrete action to create the world we want to see. Through presentations, panels and breakout groups we will develop action plans for community involvement, learn how to truly participate in our beloved democracy, understand the critical importance of independent and alternative media and make significant changes in our conscious use of the Earth’s natural resources. There will be music and drumming, community, networking, laughter and inspiration. Please join us!

The Chicago Earth Charter Community Alliance is supported by a dedicated group of individuals in the Chicago Metro Area who believe we each, individually and collectively, have the power to create our future. The Earth Charter is our roadmap, and it is with love and dedication to the principles of this Charter that the Chicago group intends to re-shape our community, and with inspired hope and committed action, to bring it forward in a positive direction.

The Earth Charter is what many of us like to call the "Declaration of Inter-Dependence". It is an international document which hopes to be a guide to living an ethical, sustainable lifestyle. If you would like to read and endorse the Earth Charter in over 25 different languages, or would like more information on the international front, visit www.earthcharter.org.

To find out what's happening in the United States and to download information about becoming a facilitator for the Earth Charter, go to www.earthcharterusa.org. And to find out where the heart of the Earth Charter in our neighborhoods is at, visit the Earth Charter Community Alliance (ECCA) site, which is the home of the Earth Charter Summits and other grassroots initiatives... you'll find it at www.earthchartersummits.org.

In the pages of our site you'll find information about what we are doing as a community in order to further the goals and visions of the Earth Charter, what events we will be participating in, and local initiatives that fit with our principles and guidelines. You will also find some links to other local groups of interest.
