The Fall 2004 Midwest Socialist Conference:

War, Poverty, Oppression: Building a Left Alternative

Chicago, Saturday, October 9

Republicans and Democrats are telling us that everything depends on who is sitting in the White House. But the most important issues--such as the war in Iraq, higher wages, ending discrimination against gays and lesbians--aren’t going to be on the ballot.

Should activists accept what "choices" are on offer from Washington, D.C.? How can we really make the struggles on the street, in our unions and in our schools stronger? Can we build a movement that overcomes the idea of voting for the "lesser of two evils?"

Come to Chicago for a day of discussion and debate at the Midwest Socialist Conference on everything from "Should Progressives Vote for Ralph Nader?" to "America’s Hidden Labor History" and the "Struggle for Palestine."

*WITH SESSIONS AND WORKSHOPS ON...

Can We Do Better Than "Anybody But Bush?" * Should Progressives Vote for Ralph Nader? * The Occupation of Iraq: The Case for Withdrawal * The Fight for Immigrant Rights: No Human Being Is Illegal * Will They Bring Back the Draft? * Reform or Revolution: How Can We Change Society? * Class Struggle in Latin America * Organizing the Unorganized: America’s Hidden Labor History * Where Does Racism Come From? * Socialism and the Fight for Women’s Liberation * Stop the Attacks: Defend Public Education * What do Marxists Say About Elections? * From Stonewall to Gay Marriage: The Fight for Equal Rights * The Russian Revolution: The Bolsheviks Come to Power * The Struggle for Palestine * Art and Revolution: Can Art Change the World?
