9-14-04 11:30 AM Haymarket Dedication
Randolph and Desplaines 11:30 AM Tuesday Sept 14, 2004
Call to all anarchists, radical unionists, workers and would-be workers.
The AFL-CIO, CFL, and the City of Chicago Dept. of Cultural Affairs will dedicate "a fitting monument commenmorating the workers struggle at Haymarket Square" (AFL-CIO website).
This fitting monument, from early public reports, is festooned with plaques from various sell-out unions, and presumably any organization that cared to pay for one.
The festivities look like they will follow the pattern set by the ILHS at the Haymarket anniversary at Waldheim where speakers spoke for 3 hours without quoting one of our Martyrs, then had a Catholic priest pray over them, as documented in a great video by Labor Beat called "Trainwreck of Ideologies." They will deny our martyrs were anarchists and that it was anarchists who kept the movement alive after the others had all failed and lost momentum.
We should be there to let the sell out organizations (my ancestors would roll over in their graves if I called them unions) and the government know they cannot steal and pervert our history.
