JOIN WITH INDIVIDUALS FROM CHICAGO'S STUDENT, YOUTH, FAITH AND PEACE & JUSTICE COMMUNITY FOR THE 11TH ANNUAL MOBILIZATION AGAINST THE MIDWEST'S LARGEST MILITARY COMMERICIAL.
Advertised in the sports pages of local newspapers and listed as a Kid's Event by the Mayor's Office of Special Events, the Chicago Air & Water Show is considered by many to be harmless and wholesome family entertainment, but the reality is that the Air & Water Show is nothing more than a celebration of U.S. military superiority, a costly and objectionable expenditure of our tax dollars, unwelcome solicitation and recruitment, and a promotion of the "might makes right" philosophy.
All individuals and organizations are welcome!
If you are opposed to war, militarism, and injustice then you need to be here!
Help us to remind people what the true purpose of these machines is!
Join with us to demand that our tax dollars be spent on domestic and social needs, not wasted on wars of mass destruction and corporate plunder.
SATURDAY & SUNDAY, AUGUST 21-22
North Avenue Beach
East end of the pedestrian bridge across Lake Shore Drive (2 blocks north of North Ave.)
9AM - 4:00PM

We’re working to have the greatest concentration of people there between noon and 4pm on both days, but stay for as long as you want and participate in whatever aspects of the mobilization that you are comfortable with. Because we hope to cover five main areas along the lakefront we ask you to contact us prior to this weekend and indicate when you will come and for how long. Even if you don’t let us know, please come anyway. Thank you.
DON’T FORGET TO WEAR SUNSCREEN, SOME FORM OF HEAD COVERING, LOOSE FITTING AND COMFORTABLE CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR, AND BRING PLENTY OF WATER AND SNACKS OR MONEY TO PURCHASE THEM WITH.
PLANS FOR THE MOBILIZATION INCUDE:
- Counter-recruitment leafleting at the armed forces tents
- Leafleting about militarism, military spending, etc. at entrance points to the festival
- Street theatre and die-ins
- Press Conference
- Making T-Shirts that participants can wear to display their objection to militarism
- Signs, Banners, Puppets and of course “other” stuff
For additional information, to endorse, or to get involved with the mobilization please send an email to
S4SJ (at) hotmail.com or call 312-587-1605. Please note that we need volunteers to help with leaflet production in the days prior to the mobilization, leaflet distribution during the mobilization, holding signs, banners and puppets, making a financial contribution to help defray the costs of publicity, T-shirts, and other items, and participating in the street theater.
