Chicago Action Medical (CAM) is currently in the
process of planning a Sexual Assault Awareness
Training.

It will likely be Sept 25th, from 10a.m. to 7p.m.
with a break for lunch.

This training is open to the activist community of the Chicago area with a slight emphasis on issues applicable to Street Medics. We hope to have different trainers from different organizations leading different sections, as well as discussions, roleplays and other activities. A trained and experienced counsellor will be present for anyone to consult at any part of the traning.

Although we are still organizing the event, we plan to cover questions such as…

What is privilege on a societal level and who has it?
What is a rape culture, and what structures perpetuate one?
How can we as individuals work to end sexism and
sexual assault on a personal level?
Why is it necessary for activist communities to
seriously confront the issues of sexism, racism, and sexual assault to better achieve our other goals of peace and justice in the world?
How can we understand rape by examining the abuse of power and control?
How is rape part of a cycle of relationship violence?
What are the common myths about rape, and what are the facts to combat them?
How can the organizations, activist groups and the
social justice movement work more affectively towards ending sexism and sexual assault in their communities?
In what ways does heterosexism negatively affect our communities?
How can we be gender-sensitive, especially when we are supporting rape survivors from the trans communities?
How do we sensitively and effectively counsel a
survivor of sexual assault?
What is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and what are the ways of working through it and supporting someone experiencing it?
What are the legal options for survivors of Sexual
Assault?
What are the medical options and repercussions for
survivors of Sexual Assault?
What resources are available to learn more about these issues and provide support for survivors?
How can people of privilege be allies to those
fighting to end sexual violence?

Space is limited, so register asap.
