As Richard says, “Ray Charles can see that.” We are referring to animal testing, which has proven useless, but continues nonetheless; needless torturing in the name of research that doesn’t advance science but is still going on. This is simply the blind stupidity of a violent mindset.
When Richard and I became of aware of SHAC’s recent run in with the FBI, Kevin had some concern that we might skitter away because of controversy. Now that’s comedy. We embrace this struggle on behalf of all animals; turning away is not an option.
Richard and I are both familiar with enslavement and abuse. We have fought against it our whole lives, even as the rage of self-destruction lived inside each of us. But because of animals, we have been delivered to a place of love and renewal. Richard has always been connected to animals, as evidenced in his comedy routines. As heartbreak and life’s lessons heaped upon each of our shoulders, animals were always there for us, our salvation and our guides. Because of them we have been able to connect with our better selves, our generous, loving and higher selves. I know that my first rescue, Livia, who I rescued from FDR Drive after someone threw her out of his truck, taught me how to really love. Richard and I have also remarried during this journey. We currently have seven dogs - all rescues - and we are still learning from them as they lead us every day to the best and innocent part of ourselves. Richard now has the personal struggle of MS, and our dogs, especially Spirit and Homer (a large hound mix who thinks he’s a Doberman), provide protection and comfort in this physical enslavement. Because of this enlightening journey, our lives have deeper meaning and purpose. And here we find ourselves, passionately committed to fighting for dogs and all animals whenever it is called for - and it is called for now in this war against the insane cruelty of animal testing.
Richard and I were drawn to SHAC because of its independence, its level of commitment, and because it speaks to an absolute determination inside of us to express our humanity. As Americans, we enjoy the freedom of speech and have a responsibility to use that freedom on behalf of those who cannot speak for themselves: ANIMALS. This isn’t the land of the free while the needless abuse and torturing of animals continues!
Kevin and SHAC’s soldiers, with courage and deep conviction, fight the terrorism that is being waged on these innocent and beautiful souls. Richard and I have been recruited and ask you to join us in this crusade for animal liberation.
