Featuring interviews with over 20 experts about the reasons we were given for war and the evidence presented to support those reasons. 7 pm, “Store Wars: When Wal-Mart Comes to Town.” This film takes a look at the populist spirit that engulfs a small Virginia town when retail giant Wal-Mart comes knocking, blue-prints in hand. The ensuing debate, which pits neighbor against neighbor, illustrates the struggle between conflicting versions of the American dream. Bush. We're inviting all anarchists, anti-authoritarians and autonomous individuals to join us for an exciting reclaiming of Pride Day. Monday, July 26 – Thursday, July 29 – PROTEST the Democratic National Convention. They Are Coming To Build A Wall. When the Democratic National Convention comes to Boston in late July, they will build a massive wall in the streets of our city. Officially referred to as the 'Hard Zone,' it will be yet another divide between those who hold power, and those who do not. This wall will separate supposed rulers and supposed subjects. From Berlin to Palestine to the Vietnam Memorial, we have all grown tired of their walls, their empty promises, and their wars. Info: blackteasociety.org/index.php

Saturday, August 28 - Poets Refuse To Be Censored During Chicago Poetry Fest. Eighty of the best writers in the City of Chicago will gather to celebrate freedom of speech at the 2004 Chicago Poetry Fest. Led by the Publisher of ChicagoPoetry.com, C. J. Laity--forty poets will take over Giddings Plaza, at the 4700 block of N. Lincoln Avenue, on Saturday, August 28, 2004, for a five hour free speech demonstration; and then another forty poets will meet at Weeds Tavern, 1555 N. Dayton, on Sunday, August 29. Both events will run from 3 until 8 PM, and both events are FREE to the public. C. J. Laity, who recently headlined the 20th Annual Printers Row Book Fair with his Chicago Poetry Showcase, is probably best known for his work with Poets Against the War. A poetry symposium was scheduled to take place in the White House on February 12, 2002, organized by Laura Bush. When Mrs. Bush learned that some of the poets who were scheduled to attend were planning on reading anti-war poems in the White House, she immediately canceled the symposium. Outraged by this act of censorship, poets organized thousands of poetry readings, that occurred simultaneously throughout the country on that day instead. Mr. Laity organized the Chicago Poets Against the War reading, which was broadcast live on the internet and which is archived at: poetrypoetry.com/CharlieSez/03-01/CharlieSez.html

Sunday, August 29 – Thursday, September 4 – Protest the Republican National Convention in New York City. The Republican National Committee has, for the first time in their 150 year history, selected New York for their Convention. In a shallow attempt at exploiting the lives lost at the World Trade Center, the RNC has pushed the Convention date to September. We have witnessed two unjust wars, at least one American life lost each day overseas, a depressed economy, the collapse of the dollar, $87 billion to boost war profiteering, the closing of our firehouses, a health-care crisis, millions of children being left behind, and now this. When the vote does not place in power those who represent the will of the people, democracy must be taken to the streets. This administration's choice of New York City, historically known for its diverse population, its welcoming of immigrants from far off lands, and its radical politics will prove to be their biggest mistake yet.
