Camejo will be joined by Green Alliance President, Howie Hawkins.

Peter Camejo is a first generation Venezuelan American who has fought for social and environmental justice since his teens. Camejo ran as a Green Party candidate in the 2002 gubernatorial election in California and came in third, garnering 5.3% of the vote, and bringing media attention to the Green Party and the Ten Key Values it supports – grassroots democracy, social justice and equal opportunity, ecological wisdom, non-violence, decentralization, community-based economics, feminism, respect for diversity, personal and global responsibility, and future focus.

Camejo advocates the Green Party as an alternative to the two major parties, describing the Green Party as "the electoral _expression of living mass movements, like the peace, women’s rights, gay and lesbian, social justice, civil rights and civil liberties movements."

The Green Party presidential nominee will be chosen by delegates at the Green Party national convention on June 26, 2004. At state primaries across the country, Camejo has allowed his name to be placed on the ballot for presidential nominee. Camejo, who ranks second in the number of first round delegate votes, has stated that he will decline the nomination and instead supports the endorsement by the Green Party of Ralph Nader, Independent presidential candidate and former Green Party presidential nominee.

In his April endorsement of Nader, Camejo stated, "This year the Nader campaign has the potential to unite those who want take a strong stand against the cash register/big money politics that are undermining public life in the United States. It would be a lost opportunity if the Greens were to ignore the national coalition forming around his campaign or to be viewed as running against Nader."

Alex Briscoe, Chicago resident and member, Illinois Green Party and Green Alliance, voiced his support for a Nader endorsement by the Greens, stating, ""A campaign by Nader, endorsed by the Greens, will promote important issues such as opposition to the war and labor fighting for its rights against corporate greed. Every vote for Nader will be a vote showing the people of Illinois that it is possible to fight back."

Camejo will be joined by Howie Hawkins, president of the Green Alliance and Green Party activist from New York. Hawkins joins Camejo in his support of an endorsement of Ralph Nader for president. Hawkins stated, "If people who want peace and justice continue voting for Democrats, they will continue to get taken for granted. The movements for peace and justice need a political alternative that is independent of the corporate parties' and their bipartisan consensus for militarism and corporate profits at the expense of working people."

This lecture is sponsored by The Green Alliance, International Socialist Organization, and the Chicago Branch of Solidarity.
