History & Politics of Rhythm & Blues 1970's:
This video-narrative presentation will illustrate the parallel between
political movements of the early 70's and the acceptance of message
tunes on radio and TV.
The emphasis was placed on the singer /songwriter, along with groups who
wrote and played their own music. The death of pure soul music replaced
by watered down R&B disco music by conglomerate capitalistic recording
industry as the African American liberation movements was crushed and
cooped.
This presentation will show footage of artists such as Edwin Starr, The
Honey Cone, Stevie Wonder, The Jackson 5, Rufus with Chaka Khan, War,
Chic, Roberta Flack.
