Korean War, what did US negotiate at the end of the war and the invasion of Chinese prods in US markets

I was watching some of the war documentaries on PBS the Sunday before the Memorial Day, and the one about the Korean War got my attention. Almost ONE million Chinese soldiers died in that war! What for? What was the purpose of this masacre? Preventing the communism from spreading or opening the Chinese markets to US?
I don't care how this sounds, it's a thought in my mind that I can not explain, after we masacre one milion Chinese we use them for a cheap labor market?
