1. CRITICAL MASS CHICAGO - Lucy Parson's Memorial Ride (May Day Critical Mass).
Lucy Parsons Memorial May Day Critical Mass Ride
Friday, April 30, 2004, 5:30pm, Daley Plaza

“More dangerous than 1,000 rioters.”
-- the Chicago Police Dept.

“She was highly regarded among social reformers for her efforts to promote civil rights.”
-- Mayor Richard M. Daley

Lucy Parsons was an anarchist labor activist during the late nineteenth and 20th century America. Her fiery oratory played a crucial role in the success of the 8-hour workday movement. The city is considering naming a park in Parsons honor at 4712 W. Belmont, but opposition from the Fraternal Order of Police threatens to derail the comemoration.

6. LUCY ELLA GONZALES PARSONS Park Picnic
May Day 2004
Celebrate International Workers Day
Lucy Ella Gonzales Parsons will have a park in her honor!

Time: 3:00 PM
Date: Saturday, May 1, 2004
Place: Lucy Ella Gonzales Parsons Park, 4712 W. Belmont, Chicago

Lucy Ella Gonzales Parsons was an ex-slave of mixed Mexican, Native and African ancestry. She is known as having been a radical leader of the labor movement. She was a revolutionary who saw the working class as central to the cause of justice in the United States and in the World.

Recently, the Chicago Park District proposed naming the park at 4712 W. Belmont the Lucy Ella Gonzales Parsons Park. The Chicago Park District had come under pressure because only 27 of 555 parks are named for women.

Like many working class leaders, Lucy had many conflicts with the Chicago Police Department. They would badger and harass her. They would try to prevent her from speaking to workers. Her husband, also a revolutionary unionist, was arrested and hung by city authorities for his role in the movement to establish the eight hour day.

For these reasons the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police is trying to stop the naming of Lucy Ella Gonzalez Parsons Park.

Workers!
Join the picnic to claim Lucy Ella Gonzales Parsons Park. Bring the kids. Music, food (bring a dish to pass), drinks, culture, and very, very short speeches will be provided.

Sponsored by Fight Back! Newspaper

7. CELEBRATE REVOLUTIONARY MAY 1ST
We have nothing to lose but our chains. We have a world to win!

On our red holiday, 2004, we truly have some things to celebrate! May 1st, 2004 marks the 25th anniversary of the Revolutionary Worker Newspaper - 25 years of a weekly revolutionary bilingual press, which has brought many people into contact with the line, viewpoint and revolutionary vision of the RCP,USA.

The RW has allowed many to play a more consistent "tribune of the people role" by revealing the class interests and class forces behind all events, exposing the thoroughly reactionary nature of the system, and bringing out the need for revolution. It has been a key vehicle through which the revolutionary strategic writings of our Chairman, Bob Avakian, have reached the Party and the people.

At this time we also celebrate the 20th anniversary of the formation of the Revolutionary Internationalist Movement (RIM) which is made up of MLM (Marxist-Leninist-Maoist) parties and organizations determined to bring a communist world into being.

In this time of both challenges and opportunities for our side, join us as we celebrate our accomplishments.

THE HIGHLIGHT OF OUR GATHERING WILL BE A VERY SPECIAL, PRE-RELEASE, 20 MINUTE VIDEO VIEWING OF A RECENT HISTORIC AND INSPIRING SPEECH GIVEN BY REVOLUTIONARY COMMUNIST PARTY CHAIRMAN, BOB AVAKIAN.

We celebrate Chairman Avakian's irreplaceable leadership that has kept so many on the revolutionary road, through his writings and through his far-reaching contributions as the Chairman of the Party.

A full length video of this talk will be available in the weeks following this May 1st event.

13. WALK FOR A JUST PEACE in Israel and Palestine
Third Annual Walk for a Just Peace in Israel and Palestine with Advocacy Buffet and Potluck

--End the Occupation
--Stop all violence from both sides
--Support the nonviolent peace-makers in Israel & Palestine

Sunday, May 2 at 12:00 noon
assembly at the northwest corner of Lake St. and Oak Park Ave. in Oak Park
12:15 program; 12:30 stepoff

The tragedy of Israeli-Palestinian violence continues daily. The Wall, separating people from their fields, schools, families and community is snaking its way through the West Bank, undermining chances of a just peace for Israelis and Palestinians. It is time to turn walls of separation into bridges of peaceful coexistence. Come raise your voice for peace; take action for justice. Join with Jews, Muslims, Christians and secular humanists in a constructive expression of commitment and hope.

Walk for a Just Peace in Israel and Palestine: Meet at Scoville Park on the northwest corner of Lake and Oak Park Ave. (downtown Oak Park) and we¹ll walk west to Harlem Ave., back along Lake St. to Scoville Park, south to Pleasant St. and back north to the Park along Oak Park Ave. (1.8 miles total).

Advocacy Buffet and Potluck: After the walk, we¹ll meet at First United Church, 848 Lake Street, to write hundreds of letters on a number of issues to national and civic leaders, urging them to stop ignoring this crisis and take courageous action toward a just and peaceful resolution. Please bring a potluck dish to share. Activism requires all kinds of nourishment; we¹ll share the table as we share our hopes.

Please Bring Signs and Banners: The organizers of this interfaith nonviolent walk for peace reject all anti-Jewish and anti-Arab language and symbols. We are committed to nonviolence in word and deed and our goal is to stand against all hatred and to give witness to the dream that all people of faith and of secular commitment can come together in the cause of peace with justice in Israel and Palestine.
